2007 “Plumbing Contractor Of The Year” Named By Delta Faucet Company And PHCC National

Industry Recognition of Plumbing Contractor of the Year & Plumbing Apprentice of the Year, Scholarships Awarded at 25th Annual PHCC Convention

ANAHEIM, CA

At the PHCC 2007 awards luncheon on Thursday afternoon, at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel and Anaheim Convention Center, Delta Faucet Company and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association (PHCC) announced the 2007 Plumbing Contractor and Plumbing Apprentice of the Year. During the annual PHCC meeting, Larry Lee was named “Contractor of the Year” and Orlando Zamora was named “Apprentice of the Year,” two prestigious awards recognized as symbols of excellence throughout the plumbing industry.

“We are proud to announce the recipients of this year’s awards, two talented individuals who represent the ideals of this profession,” said Jon Dartt, vice president of sales for Delta Faucet Company. “Through their dedication and hard work they serve as leaders within the industry while inspiring rising professionals.”

Plumbing Contractor of the Year

Larry Lee is president of Lee Plumbing & Heating in Thief River, Minnesota. Under three generations of leadership, Lee Plumbing & Heating has served the northwestern part of the state for over 100 years. The company prides itself on providing quality services and strives to present customers with the latest innovations in improving the comfort and efficiency of the heating and plumbing industry.

In addition to over 20 years of continuous membership to the Minnesota PHCC, Lee has served as treasurer for the past three years and served on the board for four years. The company upholds its tradition of community service by sponsoring a number of annual events including a rodeo, street dance and Shrine Circus.

Two PHCC contractors received runners- up honors: Dickie McCurdy, president of MMM Plumbing, Heating & Air, Inc. (first runner-up); and Wendell Presgrave, president of My Plumber, Manassas, VA (second runner-up).

Nominees for the “Plumbing Contractor of the Year” award are evaluated by a committee of PHCC members using a 100-point system that weighs their accomplishments in six areas: professionalism, merchandising and management skills, innovative plumbing techniques, trade involvement and community service. In honor of being named Plumbing Contractor of the Year, Lee received a check for $5,000 and a Bacarat crystal sculpture at the awards ceremony. Both McCurdy and Presgrave received a plaque and a $1,000 check honoring their achievements from Delta Faucet Company.

Plumbing Apprentice of the Year

Orlando Zamoro of CTO, Inc., in Harlingen, TX, was named “Plumbing Apprentice of the Year” in recognition of his excellent work ethic and continuous dedication for learning. This award recognizes an outstanding plumbing apprentice for his overall performance in the field. Nominees are judged on attitude, enthusiasm, accuracy, compatibility with coworkers, knowledge and the application of skills to work. Zamoro is in his third year as an apprentice at Rio Grande Valley Independent Plumbers’ Alliance Apprenticeship program in Harlingen, TX, where he was the recipient of a perfect attendance award and the highest GPA award. In honor of his selection, Zamoro received a $2,000 scholarship, a check for $500, along with a plaque in honor of his hard work and dedication.
